Dependent children are granted residency, allowing them to stay permanently. Parents can stay either indefinitely through the Parent Retirement Resident Visa or the Standard Parent Category, or for up to 6 months at a time with the Parent and Grandparent Multiple Entry Visitor Visa.

Parent applying under the standard Parent Category must have a child who is eligible to sponsor their visa application.

Parents applying under the standard Parent category have residence subject to 10 year sponsorship conditions and can move to permanent residence at that time.
